The 2022-2023 NFL playoffs kick off this weekend with the Wild Card round games, in which anything can happen. While six NFC teams battle it out to see who moves on to the next round, the Philadelphia Eagles will be healing up at home, waiting in anticipation.
Although the NFL playoffs are unpredictable, this is what we do know… The Philadelphia Eagles are the #1 seed in the NFL, so they have a first-round bye and home-field advantage.
We also know the Eagles will HOST the lowest-remaining seed of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Dallas Cowboys, New York Giants, or Seattle Seahawks in the Divisional Round on either Saturday, January 21st, or Sunday, January 22.
What we don’t know is which one of these teams will have the unfortunate task of facing the best team in the NFC, in the greatest sports city in the world, with the meanest fans waiting to pounce.
Why wouldn’t we WANT DALLAS?
We can only hope for the best possible matchup, and there’s only one team I’m “hoping” the Eagles face in the divisional round. The overrated & outdated Dallas Cowboys.
I understand this may not be the most popular choice among Eagles fans, since we’ll have to root for the Cowboys in the Wild Card round for it to happen. But I don’t care.
To that, I say… as an Eagles fan, Why WOULDN’T you want to see an Eagles vs Cowboys playoff matchup?
- The Eagles vs Cowboys rivalry is unlike anything else in sports. The week leading up to a Philly, Dallas game is pure chaos, full of trolls, trash-talk, taunting and adult-sized tantrums. Imagine what the playoff atmosphere will do to this rivalry. Friendships will be tested, households will be divided, and the only thing that matters is defending the honor of your team (mostly by spamming on Twitter). The rivalry may be a little much and the fandom a bit excessive, but it always makes for great entertainment.
- There’s no reason to fear the Dallas Cowboys. Their offense is anemic and inconsistent, their defense is overrated, and their quarterback is, well, Dak… an interception machine.
- I’m sick of Cowboys fans whining about how we beat them when Dak was injured. I want to see Jalen Hurts vs Dak Prescott with the season on the line. It makes for a great story.
- Oh yeah, and I never, ever, ever want to face Tom Brady in the playoffs if I don’t have to. I don’t care if he’s 72 years old.
Those of you that say, “I can’t bring myself to root for the Cowboys,” get over it.
As for the Eagles fans who just want to face the Seattle Seahawks or the New York Giants in the divisional round because they are the two lowest seeds… I leave you with these lyrics from a Robert Tepper song played in the Hollywood classic film and Philly favorite, Rocky IV.
“There’s no easy way out, There’s no shortcut home… Dallas Sucks!”
