Eagles NFL Transactions FAQ

What is an NFL transaction?

An NFL transaction refers to any move made by a team involving a player’s contract or roster status. This can include trades, signings, releases, waivers, and other moves that impact a team’s roster.

When does the NFL transaction period begin and end?

The NFL transaction period technically runs year-round, but it typically heats up during the offseason and leading up to the start of the regular season.

What is an NFL trade?

An NFL trade is a transaction where one team sends a player, draft picks, or other assets to another team in exchange for something of equal or lesser value. Trades can happen at any point during the transaction period, but they’re most common during the offseason and leading up to the trade deadline.

What is an NFL signing?

An NFL signing is when a team adds a player to their roster by offering them a contract. This can happen in free agency when a player’s contract with another team has expired, or during the offseason when teams sign players to futures contracts.

What is an NFL release?

An NFL release is when a team cuts a player from their roster, usually because they no longer fit into the team’s plans or because of salary cap considerations.

What is an NFL waiver?

An NFL waiver is a process that allows teams to claim a player who has been cut by another team. When a player is placed on waivers, every team in the league has a chance to claim them based on their waiver priority, which is determined by the team’s record.

What is an NFL practice squad?

An NFL practice squad is a group of players who are signed by a team but are not on the active roster. Practice squad players can practice with the team and be promoted to the active roster if needed, but they are not eligible to play in games unless they are promoted.

What is an NFL franchise tag?

An NFL franchise tag is a designation that a team can give to one of their players to prevent them from becoming free agents. The tag ensures that the player will receive a one-year contract worth a certain amount of money, based on their position and the average salaries of the top players at that position.

What is an NFL-restricted free agent?

An NFL-restricted free agent is a player who has completed three seasons in the league but does not yet have an expiring contract. If their team offers them a qualifying offer, the team has the right to match any offer the player receives from another team.
