On Friday, the Philadelphia Eagles signed defensive tackle Renell Wren, according to his agent Kenny Zuckerman.
The former Arizona State football player was selected in the fourth round of the 2019 NFL Draft by the Cincinnati Bengals. Wren played 11 games his rookie year, starting in two. He finished with eight tackles.
The following year he suffered a season-ending calf injury. He returned in 2021 but was signed to the Bengals’ practice squad. He played one game.
Though his time on the field has been cut short, Wren brings an obvious strength to the Eagles. At 6-feet, 5 inches and 318 pounds, the 26-year-old may be a good alternative to Hassan Ridgeway’s position as he enters free agency. He will join the depth chart behind Fletcher Cox, Javon Hargrave, Milton Williams, Marvin Wilson, and Marlon Tuipulotu.
