Eagles vs. Lions: Week 8 Predictions

Posted on October 31, 2021

Week 7 was supposed to be the turning point for the Philadelphia Eagles, but after another loss against the Las Vegas Raiders, here we are — hoping for a win. The team has taken defeat in their last five out of six games. With tensions rising among the coaches and players, the Eagles are desperately looking for a win as the season continues.

Philadelphia has made their way to Detroit to take on the Lions, who are 0-7 and also looking for a win before their bye week. The fact that this is even a debate is ludicrous, but here’s my prediction for today’s game.

EAGLES VS. LIONS PREDICTION

Eagles, 20-13

The Eagles cannot lose this week — cannot.

The Lions aren’t only 0-7, but their pass and rush offense and defense rank in the bottom third of the NFL. They are only completing 6.5 yards per attempt and 65.9% of their passes. Detroit has also gone six straight games without scoring 20 points. Granted, the Eagles defense hasn’t been on their A-game this season, but after last week, they are mad. Numerous players have begun to take a stand, calling out Jonathan Gannon and questioning his ability to utilize the defense appropriately.

I said last week Hargrave would top his career-high in sacks and it didn’t quite happen that way, so I’m saying it again this week.

Similar to the defense, Philadelphia’s offense hasn’t been sitting pretty either. Though quarterback Jalen Hurts has been quite the lifesaver in times of need (completing 1,220 of his 1,716 passing yards while the Eagles were behind), fans need to start seeing him make more progress while the Eagles are actually ahead. His best bet is to look for Smith, Watkins, and Goedert early on, rather than relying on fourth quarter comebacks.

As for the run game, it picked up last week — finally. Miles Sanders had six carries for 30 yards in the first quarter before going out with an injury, and though we’re without one of the best running backs, Sirianni needs to run the ball against the Lions. Philadelphia ranks 26th in rushing attempts, but their run offense ranks 8th, giving life to the fact that when the Eagles run, they run well.

I have to go with the Eagles for this game. Though they haven’t been showing it week after week, they are the better team.

Duce Staley may be ready to go to war while Sirianni is busy growing flowers, but who says he’s not out there growing Venus fly traps?

Today’s game is at 1 PM
