Josh Sweat hospitalized with neck injury suffered against Saints

Josh Sweat has been hospitalized after suffering a neck injury during the Eagles’ game against the New Orleans Saints on Sunday.

Sweat, 25, was injured early in the first quarter after a collision with Saints’ fullback Adam Prentice.

He was surrounded by medical personal for several minutes while he laid still, with teammates and fans cheering him on as he was placed onto a stretcher and carted off the field.

Losing Sweat is a huge blow for Eagles

While the extent of the injury isn’t known, Sweat’s chances for a playoff appearance suddenly seem grim. Regardless, it’s an insanely tough blow for the Birds.

Sweat, who made his second-straight Pro Bowl this season, has 11 sacks (12th in the NFL) and 31 tackles.

Losing Sweat becomes even worse when considering how the team has struggled with the opposing run over the last several weeks, and against offenses in general. Milton Williams and Linval Joseph should see more snaps in the defensive end’s absence.
