This was NOT how the Philadelphia Eagles wanted or expected the game against the Minnesota Vikings to go.
The Eagles lost by a final score of 38-20, in a game that really wasn’t ever close. The defense was so bad, that it actually led to the release of linebacker Zach Brown.
Philly looks to get back on track this week, but first we need to look a little more in depth at what happened against the Vikings.
Eagles betting odds vs. Vikings
The Eagles came in to the game as the underdogs by three points. They didn’t even come close to covering, and anyone who took money line bets had basically already lost by halftime. The Eagles are now 2-4 against the spread this year, and the Vikings improved to 4-2 against the spread.
Both quarterbacks hit the over on the 1.5 touchdown passes, as Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz threw for 306 yards and two touchdowns. Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins tossed 333 yards and four, yes four, touchdowns.
What went wrong for the Eagles?
Last week I said that if rookie running back Miles Sanders could break out a big touchdown, that the game could be drastically altered. Well, he had a 32-yard receiving touchdown, but it did not have a bearing on the outcome on the game.
The defense was the biggest issue as Vikings wide receiver Stefon Diggs absolutely shredded the Eagles for 167 yards and three touchdowns.
Another thing that seems to be an every week issue is getting tight end Zach Ertz involved. He only had 4 catches for 54 yards, and was held without a touchdown for the fifth time this season. He has to get it going if the Eagles truly want to be successful, but luckily the Dallas Cowboys are helping them out by playing arguably even worse.
What’s next?
The Eagles head to Dallas for a Sunday Night Football matchup against the Cowboys. This could be a pivotal game for the division, and absolutely will have playoff implications. Both teams are 3-3, but Dallas is 3-3 against the spread while the Eagles are 2-4. According to Fanduel, the Eagles are currently 3 point underdogs, with the over under set at 49.5. We will continue to update you with the movement of the spread, and we will preview the game/look at some betting trends and odds later this week.
