Week 1 of the 2022-2023 NFL season is over and Philadelphia is coming out of it 1-0. After beating the Detroit Lions, 38-35, the Lions signed offensive lineman Kayode Awosika off of the Eagles’ practice squad. Awosika will now be part of their 53-man roster, according to NFL insider Mike Garafolo.

LIONS SIGN EAGLES’ OL KAYODE AWOSIKA

The 23-year-old fit the “young mold” for Philadelphia, but he wasn’t around for long.

During his collegiate career at Buffalo, he redshirted his freshman year. Before declaring for the NFL, he was named to first-team All-MAC, second-team All-MAC, and FWAA second-team All-American.

Despite going unselected in the 2021 NFL Draft, Awosika signed as a free agent with Philadelphia. He was given the second-most guaranteed money among underrated free agents, behind tight end Jack Stoll. Philadelphia waived Awosika, eventually signing him to the practice squad.

In Week 18, he made his professional debut, playing 43 snaps.

This offseason, Awosika earned first-team reps at left tackle following the concussion of both Jordan Mailata and Andre Dillard. However, he didn’t do enough to impress the team. The Eagles repeated their moves, waiving Awosika and signing him to the practice squad one day later.

Awosika will now join a banged up offensive line in Detroit.

As for the Eagles, they are left with offensive linemen Le’Raven Clark and Cameron Tom on their practice squad, leaving one spot to fill.
