The Philadelphia Eagles recently opened training camp to much fanfare. Given that the Eagles are just a handful of teams that enter the 2019 season with legitimate Super Bowl chances, the excitement is warranted.
Though there is still more than a month until the regular season begins, the excitement is palpable. In fact, the Eagles are generating some interesting predictions when it comes to the Super Bowl odds for the 2019 season.
SugarHouse Sportsbook oddsmakers and bettors like the Eagles this season. Here is some data from the Philly sportsbook:
- Eagles +500 to reach the Super Bowl (third lowest odds).
- Eagles are +1300 to win the Super Bowl.
- Eagles over/under for wins is 10.
Desean Jackson warns Eagles to ignore Super Bowl hype
The pundits and oddsmakers haven’t gotten the Eagles to believe the hype, though. Newly reacquired wide receiver DeSean Jackson told reporters on Thursday that he is warning his teammates not to focus on the preseason expectations. Instead, he wants the team to focus on its own goals.
“You can say, ‘Hey, this team is a Super Bowl team,’ and everyone’s on that bandwagon to believe it, or you can say, ‘Hey, we’re not a Super Bowl team and that’s a goal we have and that’s what we want to accomplish and let’s be the underdogs where not everyone is talking about us and there’s not as much pressure,’” Jackson told NBC Sports.
“I think a lot of times when people label, ‘Oh, this is a Super Bowl team,’ then you’re always having to live up to that hype and that noise. So, we know the goal, but we’re not going to continuously harp on it because we know it’s a long season and we know what it’s going to take to get there.”
Jackson is expected to be a deep threat for the Eagles and quarterback Carson Wentz, who opened training camp after ending the last two seasons with injuries.
Eagles QB Wentz feels healthy
Entering his fourth training camp, Wentz says he expects to see action in the preseason games when the Eagles line up against Tennessee on Aug. 8. He told reporters he is not taking the preseason lightly.
Meanwhile, Wentz’s teammates are expecting big things from the quarterback. Backup Nate Sudfeld told the Philadelphia Inquirer that the clean bill of health means a big year for Wentz.
“I think Carson’s going to have a huge year. He looks strong and healthy and confident,” Sudfeld said. “I think he’s done a really good job investing in his body. I’m just excited. I think he’s smart, going into Year 4, kind of been around the block a little bit. Had a lot of great stuff, some adversity, He’s in a good place for a great year.”
Odds on Eagles QB
Oddsmakers are looking for a big year from Wentz, too. According to SugarHouse, Wentz is expected to post some big numbers and be in the MVP discussion.
- Wentz is +1000 to win the MVP (5th lowest odds of anyone)
- Wentz over/under on TD passes is 28.5
Wentz’s teammates should benefit, too. Sugar House Casino has tight end Zach Ertz posted at +2500 to have the most season receiving TDs in 2019 (tied for 7th lowest odds).
