Realistically, no one knows what to expect from the Philadelphia Eagles moving into the 2021 NFL season. With the exception of three people, the team has an entirely new coaching staff. Not to mention a starting quarterback who has only played four games.
However, much of the roster comes with potential.
CBS Sports recently ranked the four most underrated teams ahead of the season, and the Eagles land on the list.
2020 SEASON
It’s safe to say that no Eagles fan wants to relive the 2020 season. Philadelphia came off of a Super Bowl win in 2017, making the playoffs every year after, until 2020. Coming in last in the NFC East, the Eagles finished 2020 with a 4-11-1 record.
Was it the pandemic? A lack of preseason practice? A franchise quarterback affected by a history of injuries? No support? A lack of health on the starting line?
Probably a combination of everything, players such as Carson Wentz, DeSean Jackson, Zach Ertz, and Jake Elliott fell to the bottom after a long history of success.
EAGLES AMONG UNDERRATED FOR 2021 SEASON
As the Eagles move ahead into a new season, things can only go up from here, right?
Back to square one, the team underwent an overhaul this offseason. Former Indianapolis Colts offensive coordinator Nick Sirianni will now lead the team as head coach. Sirianni has been focused on competition at every position, proving to have value as holes in gameplay will become more apparent.
The Eagles acquired several standouts from the NFL Draft, including DeVonta Smith, and many veteran players have recovered from injuries. Though some deficits still need to be worked out, the drama is beginning to settle in Philadelphia.
Last week, CBS Sports named the Eagles among four underrated teams ahead of the new season, with a projected win total of O/U 7. Joining the Birds are the Minnesota Vikings, Indianapolis Colts (Wentz’s new home), and Denver Broncos.
Agreeing with CBS Sports, NFL Polls Now also ranked the Eagles in their top five underrated teams list.
Could this be another underdog season? Preseason begins in three weeks, Sunday, August 8.
