Eagles get better draft pick after Colts fail to make playoffs

Posted on January 9, 2022

The Philadelphia Eagles didn’t even play today, and they still won.

With a first-round pick owed to The Birds from the Colts, a selection that would have been between No. 19 and No. 32 will now be no worse than No. 18 overall. This came after Indianapolis failed to win their Week 18 game against Jacksonville.

The Jaguars who entered Sunday’s game with a 2-14 record, beat the Colts 26-11 in what was a disastrous game for former Eagles’ quarterback Carson Wentz. Though Wentz seemed to be excelling with his new team this season, the 2021 season finale got the best of him.

Wentz completed 17 of 29 passes for 185 yards and one touchdown. He also had one fumble and one interception. Since 2016, the Colts have lost every game against the Jaguars on the road. This time, however, they were 14.5-point favorites.

A win for Indianapolis would have clinched a playoff berth.

Even with their loss, the playoffs were still attainable if the Ravens (vs. Steelers), Dolphins (vs. Patriots), and Raiders (vs. Chargers) won. Given the Ravens’ lost, it just wasn’t meant to be for Wentz and the Colts.
