Vermeil will be closing speaker at Hall of Fame enshrinement

Former Eagles coach Dick Vermeil will be the Class of 2022’s final speaker at their enshrinement into the Pro Football Hall of Fame next month.

Vermeil and seven others will be inducted in the Hall on Aug. 6 in Canton, Ohio.

The Pro Football Hall of Fame released the list of speakers:

  1. LeRoy Butler
  2. Sam Mills
  3. Richard Seymour
  4. Art McNally
  5. Tony Boselli
  6. Bryant Young
  7. Cliff Branch
  8. Vermeil

Vermeil will enter the Hall as an Eagle, he announced last month. He coached the Eagles from 1976-82, leading them to the Super Bowl after the 1980 season.

“I’m going in as an Eagle,” Vermeil told NBC-10’s John Clark. “Philadelphia is my home team. It’s where I live and deeply identify with the community.”

Vermeil’s decision to go in as an Eagle was somewhat of a surprise, since he won the 2000 Super Bowl as the head coach of the St. Louis Rams.

Vermeil coached 15 years in the NFL. He was 54-47 as the Eagles’ coach; 22-26 with the Rams; and 44-36 with the Chiefs.
