Eagles make promotions on coaching staff; Clement reportedly going to Ravens

As Eagles players reported for the first day of training camp Tuesday, the team announced five promotions and a new hire to the coaching staff.

The promotions are:

  • Alex Tanney: assistant quarterbacks/offensive assistant
  • Dennard Wilson: defensive passing game coordinator/defensive backs
  • Jeremiah Washburn: defensive ends/outside linebackers
  • Tyler Scudder: defensive assistant
  • Eric Dickerson: offensive quality control (not *the* Eric Dickerson, the Hall of Fame running back)
  • The new hire is Scott Kaniecki, administrative assistant to the head coach.

Tanney might have the most impact this season. As assistant quarterbacks/offensive assistant coach, he will work with Jalen Hurts as the quarterback continues his NFL development.

Tanney joined the Eagles in 2021 as an offensive quality control coach after a nine-year NFL career spent as a back-up quarterback.

The Monmouth University graduate was an undrafted free agent who played for the Chiefs, Cowboys, Browns, Buccaneers, Titans, Bills, Colts and Giants.

Wilson added the title of defensive passing game coordinator during the offseason. He joined the Eagles in 2021 as a defensive backs coach.

He previously coached defense with the Rams and Jets and was a pro scout for four years with the Bears.

Washburn will begin his fourth year with the Eagles and his first as defensive ends/outside linebackers coach. From 2020-21, Washburn was a senior defensive assistant. He joined the Eagles in the 2019 offseason as an advanced projects coordinator.

Washburn has more than two decades of NFL experience. He coached with the Dolphins, Bears and Lions. He also an area scout and player personnel assistant for the Ravens and a football operations assistant for the Panthers.

Scudder was an Eagles defensive assistant and coach’s assistant in 2021. His promotion is to defensive assistant. Before joining the Eagles, he was a college coach for more than a decade. He is a native of Gettysburg, Pa.

Dickerson begins his second year with the Eagles. He joined the team in 2021 as part of the NFL’s Bill Walsh Diversity Coaching Fellowship Program. He was promoted to offensive quality control coach during the offseason. In 2021, he was a defensive assistant. 

Before coming to the Eagles, Dickerson coached three years at Duke and one year at his alma mater, South Carolina State.

Kaniecki joined the Eagles as the administrative to head coach Nick Sirianni during the offseason, Previously, he spent seven season with the Browns.

At Cleveland, he worked in the personnel department and was a scouting assistant. He also worked with linebackers as a defensive quality control coach.

Practices at training camp begin Wednesday.

CLEMENT TO RAVENS?

Former Eagles running back Corey Clement, who caught an amazing touchdown pass in Super Bowl 52, reportedly will sign with the Baltimore Ravens according to a report by Pro Football Network’s Aaron Wilson.

In the Eagles’ 41-33 Super Bowl victory over the Patriots, Clement caught four passes for 100 yards. He also received the snap on the famous “Philly Special” play that led to a Trey Burton touchdown pass to Nick Foles near the end of the first half.

The Glassboro, N.J. native gained 655 yards on 163 carries in four seasons with the Eagles. He scored seven touchdowns on the ground and two in the air. Clement played last season with the Cowboys.
