2022 draft pick watch: Losses galore improve pick values, but Wentz injury is concerning

Posted on September 20, 2021

Another week, another draft pick watch edition. The Eagles lost, which raises their own picks in the 2022 NFL draft. Many of their other top assets also saw their values bumped up this week thanks to some brutal losses.

Below is the full list of the Eagles’ projected 2022 draft picks, as well as how they were acquired:

RoundHow Pick Was Acquired
1stEagles' own pick
1stDolphins' pick- Acquired in 2020 Draft trade
2ndColts' pick- Acquired in Carson Wentz trade (can become 1st)
2ndEagles' own pick
3rdEagles' own pick
4thEagles' own pick
5thEagles' own pick
5thWFT pick- Acquired in 2020 Draft trade
5thCardinals' pick- Acquired in Zach Ertz trade
6thJets' pick- Acquired in Joe Flacco trade (can become 5th)
6thColts' pick- Acquired in Matt Pryor trade

Remember that the Colts’ second-rounder can become a first if Carson Wentz plays at least 75% of snaps, or Wentz plays 70% and the Colts make the playoffs.

Colts Lose, But Wentz Is Dealing With Injuries

The Indianapolis Colts lost to the Los Angeles Rams, 27-24. Very nice in regards to that conditional draft pick. Right now, the pick would be fourth overall thanks to Indy sporting an 0-2 record (via Tankathon). The sixth-rounder also benefits from the Colts’ misfortunes.

Carson Wentz played 93% of snaps in the game, which is well above the required number. However, he left the game early and didn’t return. Wentz is now dealing with injuries to both ankles. Yes, not just one, but both:

Even when he’s not on the Eagles, Wentz is still torturing fans with his health. It’s too early to determine if Wentz will be healthy enough to start Sunday’s game for Indianapolis. If he’s out, that hurts the chances of the second converting to a first.

Dolphins Lose Big To Bills

The Dolphins were completely destroyed in a 35-0 shutout to Buffalo. Miami now sits at 1-1 on the season, which would make their first-rounder 10th overall if the season ended today.

Another important development is that starting QB Tua Tagovailoa left the game early with bruised ribs. Tests showed nothing major, but he’s still in pain and his status for Sunday’s game is unknown. The Dolphins are undoubtedly worse with Tua out, so this pick could rise heavily in the coming weeks depending on their young quarterback’s health.

Washington Football Team Wins

The WFT pulled out a tight one against the New York Giants in a game that’s probably equivalent to trashy TLC shows. Downright awful, but still fun to watch. With the victory, the spot of that 5th rounder goes down.
